On Monday the 2nd March 2009, the Nargol village situated in the State of Gujarat, India witnessed yet another historical event where our most Holy Mother Shri Mataji meditated 39 years ago to open the last Chakra of the Universe. The forest land surrounding the holy place has finally been declared and inaugurated as "Nirmal Van" in an official ceremonial function hosted formally by the representatives on behalf of the Indian Government along with the State administrative functionaries and the Nargol jurisdiction authorities.
Nargol is a small village situated adjacent to the beach (Arabian Sea) area about sixteen kilometres (approximately 10 miles) away from Sanjan town in southern part of Gujarat in India. Despite its proximity to the sea, the area has a quite a variety of trees among which the casuarinas (called as Saru in local dialects) thrive in abundance. Geographically Nargol is situated at a very close proximity to the State of Maharashtra. Tracing the imprints of ancient history Nargol had been an active port in the past and is believed that the Parses community landed here over a thousand years ago to settle in and around Nargol, Sanjan and other adjoining neighborhood areas.
In the history of Sahaja Yoga, it was in the evening of the 4th of May, 1970 that H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi decided to sit in meditation under a Saru (casuarinas) tree at this place of Nargol and in the early dawn of 5th of May 1970, She experienced the opening of the Sahasrara of the Universe. Shri Mataji has described about that splendor, grandeur and Divine happening in Her earlier messages to the world at several occasions in past.
Subsequent to the happening of this Divine event at Nargol in 1970, the place had been blessed to celebrate at least two very auspicious occasions in Her Holy presence of Shri Mataji. In March 1972 Shri Mataji visited Nargol for a day. Later celebrating the completion of 25 years of Sahaja Yoga activity an international Diwali Puja was offered at Her Holy Feet in Her Holy presence of Shri Mataji in October 1995 (amidst 2500 yogis from India and 100 from abroad). Since 1995, Sahaja Yogis have been blessed to perform regular Sahasrara Puja and Havans in Her Nirakar Form at Nargol.
A special project for Nargol was undertaken by the collective efforts of yogis to transform this holy place to be another Sahaja pilgrimage in line with other ongoing Sahaja projects. Thus by the blessings of Shri Mataji in March 2003, the Life Eternal Trust Gujarat, was entrusted to negotiate a deal with concerned authorities to acquire the land. A few years ago a concrete wall boundary around the Holy 'Saru Tree' (casuarinas) was constructed to protect the 'Nirmal Briksh' ('Nirmal Tree') from external calamities.
Finally in month of February 2009 the Gujarat State yogis along with the India Sahaja Yoga Trust were able to negotiate a deal with the National and Regional Forest departments, the local authorities and Indian Administrative offices at Delhi. However, negotiations to acquire this particular land adjoining the historical saru tree failed as the land belonged to and formed an integral part of the State reserve forest. But, as the Divinity worked out, the concerned authorities agreed to protect the demanded land by declaring it as part of the Eco-zone under the Nargol, JFMC (South Valsad Forest Division of Gujarat State) for promotion of environmental awareness, ecotourism and peace project. Interestingly the function unveiling the official plaque of declaration was inaugurated by the Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of MSME, Mr. Dinesh Rai, IAS, who also happens to be the Joint Vice chairman of H.H.Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi Sahaja Yoga Trust. This function was a State declaration in presence of the Sarpanch of Nargol jurisdiction, Mr. Yetin Bhandari.
Thus on 2nd March 2009, in a restricted gathering the local villagers, the Sarpanch of Nargol village, DFO, RFO and approximately 50 Sahaja Yogi from various parts of Gujarat State celebrated the proceedings of the official function hosted by the Government functionaries. There was also an official 'plant sapling' ceremony that followed. The chosen plant saplings were vibrated a day before by Shri Mataji at Pratishthan, Pune. The saplings were mostly of Bael (Aegle marmelos), Ashoka (Saraca indica L.) and Peepal (Ficus religiosa). All of these species grow as high rise trees and possess unique spiritual significance along with several medical (Ayurvedic) and herbal values. Typically they are associated with incarnations and deities like Shri Shiva, Shri Rama, Shri Buddha, Shri Mahavira, Shri Sita and Shri Hanumana and therefore traditionally these trees are revered and worshipped in Oriental world.
The memorandum of understanding signed by the concerned authorities also declares that around three acres of land adjoining the site of the "Nirmal Tree" may be utilized and developed as meditation zone for the Sahaja Yogis in due course. However, efforts are on and negotiation is in progress to acquire a possible plot in the vicinity to this particular site for establishing Sahaja Yoga foundations at Nargol. It is our collective interest; desire and prayer at Her Holy Feet that may Shri Mataji bless us to build yet another beautiful Sahaja Yoga Ashram at this most holy place on Earth where the Sahasrara of the universe was opened.

Thanks so much for this photo of Shri Mataji at Nargol. That the Sahaja organization did not make it their most precious photo, considering that it was taken just after the collective opening of the Sahasrara, really does question the priorities of the Sahaja organization. i can't even believe i have never seen it before! It therefore makes it obvious to me that those who ran the Sahaja organization were pleasing their need for status, money and control rather than concentrating their efforts on the most important spiritual event of the Devi Herself!

You are right Violet: that photo should have been top priority in spreading Sahaja Yoga ...... at the least it should have been the centerpiece of both heart and home. Every Sahasrara Day since the late 70s onwards, when Shri Mataji began Her teachings, should have at least been celebrated with that particular photo.
For crying out loud, it was taken just AFTER She opened the Sahasrara Chakra and one can see how emotional and drained Shri Mataji was. She had achieved and demonstrated the most anticipated and extraordinary of eschatology events: the ability for ordinary humans to enter the Kingdom of God (Sahasrara) promised by Jesus Christ two millenniums ago! Even the deities and prophets wept in joy on that day, so emotionally charged was Shri Mataji's success in opening the collective Sahasrara Chakra.
Yet, for the most strangest of unknown reasons, that image was just ignored. Yes, it was IGNORED by those in charge. i am furious and screaming silently at the destructive negativity (leaders) that still continues to destroy Shri Mataji's advent and message (AUM). And if you add Risperidol and denial of publicly requested rest that eventually hastened Her death, you have no words to express yourself.
Shri Mataji's advent and message was collectively downplayed and slowly edited out over the years and decades. The May 5, 1970 photo is perhaps the most important evidence against Her enemies in disguise.

And what did Her enemies in disguise substitute the May 5, 1970 photo with?

They have assumed that Shri Mataji sat under a tree from the evening of 4 May 1970 till the early morning of 5 May 1970. Let me poke a stick into this bullsh*t (or cow-dung is you please):
i) Shri Mataji never said She opened the Sahasrara while sitting under a Saru tree..... even a tree for that matter. SYs have _assumed_ that She must have sat/leaned under/against a tree. How else could She have physically endured almost twelve hours of meditation? Try meditating without back-support for 12 hours and see what happens. Try meditating 12 hours outdoors without back-support and you will really see what happens when mosquitoes, ants, bugs and cold take their toll. To say that Shri Mataji did so and yet came out perfectly unscathed without a single mosquito bite, as the photo shows, is a big, fat lie. The SY leaders have just made the whole thing up, and thousands of fools just believe them.
ii) Shri Mataji never spent "the evening of 4 May 1970 till the early morning of 5 May 1970" in meditation. She only meditated in the early hours of 5 May 1970 while staying at that guest-house (in the photo). Once done She just went back ... and the mosquitoes, ants, bugs and cold never had the chance to discomfort Her.
iii) The particular Saru tree has been recognized by SY leaders given their unique ability to pick it up after more than three decades. What an extraordinary gift! But Shri Mataji never pointed to any tree. It is just a figment of SY imagination, or ingenuity. And if you try to picture how the tree would have looked three decades ago you come up with a mere sapling, or worse, nothing at all as the seed still had to fall from the mother tree.
i did all that homework when that SWAN article came out in 2009. Hours were spent checking and comparing images and age of Saru (casuarinas) trees in growth. i was taken back when at most that particular tree would have been a mere sapling. Yet the sapling was strong enough to support the weight of Shri Mataji for twelve hours. That is what SY leaders want Her disciples to believe. But i never brought that research out as there was nothing to argue against. Nothing, until the true significance of that photo a few days ago.
So today a make belief Saru tree is given official veneration while the sacred May 5, 1970 photo languishes in obscurity. Such is the poverty that is the Sahaja Yoga organization, one that fools following and supporting richly deserve. Unlike a Banyan tree with a lifespan of hundreds of years chosen by Buddha, SY fools think that Shri Mataji chose one that lasts at most 60 years. It looks like Wikipedia have been misinformed, that Shri Mataji was contemplating/meditating under a 'Saru' rather than a 'Bilva' (Bael) tree, and also that Shri Mataji had opened the Primordial Sahasrara while under a tree, rather than having Her feet immersed in water. However, as you have elicited, Jagbir, the correct 'tree fact' was given by Shri Mataji, Herself, via an interview which was published in 'Hinduism Today' (Volume 12, Number 10, page 7), which i again cite:
..."So the whole night I sat under a bilva tree near the seashore. I was just thinking, 'How will I manage this en mass realization?' And that is the day when the seventh chakra opened and when I saw how the kundalini was going to rise. Of course, I cannot explain this to you because it is a different level of understanding. It is a siddhi (psychic power) which is beyond chitta (consciousness). So with the siddhi I worked it out. When that happened, this one didn't know anything about realization. Then I started this work." (end)

As you have also cited, Jagbir, here is what is given by an Independent 3rd Party Witness, Kash, whom Shri Mataji confirmed would give evidence pertaining to Her Incarnation. Kash was given, and duly communicated, that 'The Great Spirit had Her feet immersed in the sea', when She opened up the Primordial Sahasrara. Here is that wonderful, mystical evidence that was given:

The projection showed Her sitting on a long, flat concrete structure, against a rocky background landscape and some houses, and facing the dark watery vastness before Her. Shri Sindura-Tilakancita Devi [3] was wearing a white sari with a red border, and had a bindi on Her forehead.
The Lotus Feet of Shri Nirmala Devi were submerged in the Indian Ocean. She was in deep meditation.
Suddenly streams of red and yellow sparks of light began spewing out from the top of Her head around the Brahmarandhra, bursting about a foot or two into the air.
Kash said that these sparks "looked like fireworks," "like a volcano erupting and shooting lava into the air."
They came out in a steady stream as if there was a fire blazing inside the head of the Great Primordial Guru. But he could not see the interior of these "fireworks", "volcanoes," or "fire" as only the frontal view of the Great Supreme Goddess was projected.
For about 10 minutes these "tongues of flame" kept issuing forth from the head of the Great Holy Ghost.
Then the fiery blaze stopped. Immediately a fountain of water gushed out of the top of Her Head about three feet into the air. It poured down like rain and the Great Celestial Mother was completely drenched by the Water of Life.
The Fountain of Life kept gushing for about 10 minutes.

It is a version that is written, quite rightly as they say: "for the followers of Sahaja Yoga". That is also why they have their facts wrong, because as Shri Mataji subtly warned in 1982, one needs to be dedicated to Her, not to Sahaja Yoga! The point, here, is, that if you follow Sahaja Yoga, you will go off the tracks and won't be able to ascend. Even in the 1st generation they have their facts wrong, so how can the untruth not cause a spiritual spiraling downward from there onward? So, one is not to follow Sahaja Yoga, for that reason:
"You have to dedicate yourself completely to Me, not to Sahaja Yoga, but to Me. Sahaja Yoga is only one of my aspects. Leaving everything you have to dedicate. Complete dedication, otherwise you cannot ascend any further. Without questioning, without arguing, complete dedication is the only way you can achieve it."

That said, i would like to explore Sahaja Yoga's reference points regarding the importance of Nargol, starting with reference [6] and comments to follow:
1./ "Nargol has great importance for the followers of Sahaja Yoga. One of the Casuarina trees (or Saru trees) is called "Nirmal Tree" ("Nirmal Briksh") [6].
Nargol has significance for the followers of Sahaja Yoga and for the followers of the Adi Shakti/Divine Mother. However, the casuarina (Saru) tree only has significance for the followers of Sahaja Yoga, who wanted a particular tree for the purpose of saying that Shri Mataji meditated and opened the Primordial Sahasrara under it. It is my belief/understanding that they collectively chose one for themselves due to its closeness to the beach and imbued it with significance by calling it the "Nirmal Tree". However, no evidence is cited for this 'Nirmal Tree', because there is no evidence for it; it was made up!

Apparently this Saru tree was in 'local sight' (pun intended) and 'near the beach', therefore convenient to choose. The original Bilva tree may not be there anymore, since it would be approximately 42 years since Shri Mataji sat under it, but that is conjecture on my part. Shri Mataji never sat under the Saru Tree; it is a fake story, as you had found evidence for, Jagbir:

From reading 3./ above, Jagbir, it looks like the importance of what Shri Mataji did at Nargol, namely, the opening up of the Primordial Sahasrara, has been trumped by the importance of the "promotion of environmental awareness, ecotourism and [a] peace project". Well, we should know by now that Sahaja Yoga is a true fake that is more interested in their own organization than it is interested in the Divine Mother! And that fact is becoming all the more clear as more is revealed.

Unlike the Saru tree, the Bilva is very auspicious for Hindus. Shri Mataji made that point to convey the sense of sacredness leading to Her opening the Sahasrara Chakra.
Shri Mataji sat the whole night, perhaps say 8.00-11.30 p.m., under a bilva tree. Perhaps such a tree was nearby the bungalow that Sir. C.P. had rented, as such trees are planted around temples and houses:
"And I went to many people to find out, but I found they were great hypocrites. I saw so many of these Gurus, most of them. When I saw them, I was surprised they were all hypocrites. Money making and also. I went to Rash Neesh also to see him and he said that I should come to his program. I did not know what sort of man, because he was talking about Gita and I thought he might be knowing something about it.
I went there but my husband said: 'No, I won't allow you to go to this program'. So he arranged his own bungalow and all that for me. So I went down there and there I could see all the things which were going on. And that is the day somehow or another I said: 'I must open the last chakra!' "

Shri Mataji must have spent time inside the bungalow contemplating what to do: "So he arranged his own bungalow and all that for me. So I went down there and there I could see all the things which were going on." She must have rested, taken a shower, had tea, dinner etc. prior to opening the Sahasrara at early dawn.
Thus Her sitting under a bilva tree nearby this rented bungalow makes more sense than sitting under one in the nearby forest. Perhaps that is the reason the SY organization was never able to locate one in the forest as it was non-existent.
And locating one in the vicinity of the bungalow would have gone against the organization: It was on private property and access would have been denied to them!
Solution: Give official veneration to a make-belief tree in the nearby forest. Since no bilva tree could be found, a Saru would do. The SY organization had to find a tree, claim it to be the Nirmal tree, and allow thousands of fools to feel cool vibrations from it.
And yes, most of them felt cool breeze ..... even though that particular tree could be the one the local dogs had their annual pissing contest, ........ or the town prostitutes gave bl*w j*bs for ten rupees (1990 Indian government controlled rates). You never know ... so let your imagination run wild.
Should i continue? No. i will give all of you the chance to speculate what happened under that saru tree over the years that gives off cool vibrations to thousands of fools today. And please be creative because for these fools their cool breeze overrules all evidence, even that given by Shri Mataji.
When i call SYs "fools", it is done with utter respect and veneration for that term:
1. One who is deficient in judgment, sense, or understanding.
2. One who acts unwisely on a given occasion.
3. One who has been tricked or made to appear ridiculous; a dupe.
4. A mentally deficient person; an idiot.
